Microclimate cooling is coming home to Farnborough!

With it's origins in the secret laboratories of 1950s Britain at Farnborough's airfield, microclimate cooling has had many applications over the years, since. Used initially to extend the range of RAF bomber aircraft, then migrated into NASA's Apollo programme, the science of low-energy personal cooling systems has come a long way.

"It's basis, however remains the same; "Cool the person, not the place!"", says Andy Buxton, Managing Director of Sleepbreeze Ltd.

Sleepbreeze Ltd - a small family owned company with many years of expertise in this field - has applied this idea to keeping people cool in heatwaves, hot climates and promoting better rest and sleep as a result.

Working with The Event Medicine Company, Sleepbreeze Ltd developed a version of their standard product to help support heat casualties at public events. Fitting to standard medical trolleys and stretchers the product provides cooling whilst the patient receives treatment by paramedics at the scene.

With the Event Medicine Company providing the on-site medical cover for the Farnborough International airshow next week, it is fitting to know that a piece of British military science that owes it's origins to Strike Command's laboratories at Farnborough has moved seamlessly into the commercial world and is now in use so close to where the idea was first dreamt up!

Sleepbreeze launches new product to cool troops at Camp Bastion

Where: DVD Millbrook, Concpet 5, OR52 - Infreg stand
What: Photo opportunity - Launch of Sleepbreeze military cot cooler.
When: 22-24th June 2010
Immediate release
Contact Details: Andy Buxton, Tel. 01420 540209, Email: info@sleepbreeze.co.uk

Sleepbreeze Ltd is proud to be launching its new low-energy cooling product at DVD Millbrook – the MoD sponsored defence exhibition. Destined for the military market the cooler has been developed by Sleepbreeze Ltd to help MoD tackle the enormous engineering, logistic, security and cost of keeping our troops cool in the heat of Afghanistan.

100,000 litres of fuel are used at Camp Bastion each day at a cost of £35M per annum. Air conditioning the sleeping accommodation for the 10,000 troops at Camp Bastion accounts for some 25% of all fuel used. The reinforcement of Bastion with a further 10,000 US troops is likely to increase costs to the hard-pressed UK Exchequer to £70M per annum.

Sleepbreeze sponsoring the Mongal Rally 2009

We're delighted to have been asked to sponsor the "Mongway Round team" in the 2009 Mongol Rally.

This most unusual rally combines both adventure and eccentricity in equal measures. The Mongway Round team approached Sleepbreeze to use our coolers to keep them cool in the blistering heat that awaits them in tents and hostels across Europe and Central Asia in the weeks to come. We couldn't think of anything that captures the spirit of adventure better than a race from Goodwood racecourse to Ulaanbaatar.

We'll be posting regular updates on our team's progress on the Breezeblog and also on the Sleepbreeze page on facebook. The team will be sending videos and photos back as they dash towards Mongolia over the coming weeks.

If you want to see what's in store for the team, take a look at this route and wish them luck. Lots of luck.

International Aid & Trade Event prize draw

Sleepbreeze will be on show at the International Aid & Trade event at the Ronald Reagan Building & International Trade Centre, Washington D.C. on the 9-10 July 2009.

Sleepbreeze Ltd developed a compact, lightweight and above all ultra low-energy cooling product that is a boon for aid workers serving in hot, humid countries. The Sleepbreeze personal cooler uses so little energy that an amazing 20 Sleepbreezes can be powered with the same energy that a single lightbulb uses.

Sleepbreeze has proven of particular benefit to people using mosquito nets, transforming the sleeping environment from stiffling heat and humidity to an environment where good quality sleep can be achieved.

Sleepbreeze is a relatively new brand to the market and has been working with the STAR-TIDES project team at the National Defense University for some time. Our most recent product, developed for a British field hospital is a personal cooler that attaches to the side of a NATO camping cot.

Keeping Cool in a Crisis with Sleepbreeze

With storm season in the US just around the corner, it’s never too soon to check the power outage emergency kit.
Sleepbreeze at STAR-TIDES

Sleepbreeze was well represented at the STAR-TIDES autumn exhibition at Fort Leslie J. McNair in Washington D.C. in early October. Managing Director, Andy Buxton attended the exhibition and was on hand to demonstrate the Sleepbreeze and discuss it's numerous benefits to a variety of distinguished visitors from the US Military and NGOs. There was universal praise for the Sleepbreeze and serious enquiries which are being followed up.

The Sleepbreeze's small size, low weight, effectiveness and energy efficiency were all admired.

STAR-TIDES is about getting people with solutions in front of those people with problems. It is not about delivering "Meals Ready to Eat" (MREs) to disaster victims. There are many established and effective organisations doing this already.

"STAR-TIDES is all about offering appropriate, affordable technical solutions to problems faced by populations in disaster zones. These include, solar power generation, water purificaition, solar cookers, shelters, waste treatment, communications, lighting, heating and cooling.", said Andy. "The Sleepbreeze offers the best cooling solution for those situations where resources such as energy and water are at a premium."

The STAR-TIDES team presented a number of scenarios, ranging from individual family unit size up to large encampments, demonstrating different technologies for each. Different geographical zones were also considered, including Continental US, Africa and Afghanistan.

Many of the team are actively involved with relief efforts in these areas.

"We're proud to be involved in this effort and to support STAR-TIDES as it develops and matures.", concluded Andy.

We've brought our shipping costs down and we're passing it all on!

For our US-based customers we've brought the the shipping cost for single and multiple purchases down dramatically.

And dare we say it? With the US$ now 15% stronger against the £GBP compared with when we launched, there are savings to be had all round.

So, whilst we know the credit crunch is hurting, we thought we'd do out bit and pass on the savings we've made direct to our customers.

Tactical Gear Command announced as US distributor for Sleepbreeze

--- For immediate release ---

Sleepbreeze - best known for its innovative low-power, "go anywhere" cooling product - has selected Tactical Gear Command as its distributor in the United States for military and government sales.

Tactical Gear Command has an enviable reputation in meeting the needs of the US military and law enforcement agencies which has been proven over many years and were a natural fit for Sleepbreeze.

US authorities have recently acknowledged the cost and difficulty of cooling sleeping accommodation in Iraq, Afghanistan and Djibutti. Insurgents understand how critical fuel convoys are and actively target them. Military planners have set targets for reducing fuel consumption which Sleepbreeze's product could easily help achieve.

The Sleepbreeze personal cooler reduces the need for air conditioning by providing localised, direct direct air movement in bed. It is intended that the Sleepbreeze would be placed on or next to the camping cots used by troops. Sleepbreezes have have proved highly effective in heat waves in Australia and has been a boon for those trying to achieve thermal comfort when using mosquito nets.

"Following a sucessful demonstration at The Pentagon last year we felt it appropriate to work with a distributor who could best represent our product to the military market. We are delighted to be working with Tactical Gear Command" said Andy Buxton, Sleepbreeze's founder. "Increasingly we see that our product is more than an aid to comfort but can solve much broader problems faced by the military and civil emergency authorities. For this reason we want to get our product out to troops. We believe Tactical Gear Command are best able to help us achieve this."

We are delighted to have been asked to become a corporate sponsor of Hampshire Wildlife Trust.
Raffle prize for the "greening of Bentley" stall, Bentley village fete

We are delighted to have made a Sleepbreeze personal cooler available as a raffle prize for the "greening of Bentley" stall at the upcoming Bentley village fete.

Commenting on the various local "greening" campaigns, Andy Buxton, Managing Director of Sleepbreeze Ltd said: "A little known fact is how much energy is wasted in the use of traditional desk, pedestal and tower fans. Up to 60% of the energy consumed by these products ends up as waste heat. Somewhat ironic, since the idea of a desk fan is to cool the room, not add heat into it!" Andy went on to say that the Sleepbreeze personal cooler gets you cool, but uses only 4 watts. Desk fans use anything from 60 watts upwards. Surely a boon for anyone wanting to stay cool but who is conscious of their CO2 footprint. Or their electricity bill, for that matter.

So, "Roll up, roll up" to enter the prize draw!

Good luck to all and have a great day at the fete.

Saturday, 19th of July. Bentley recreation ground.
