Testing times in Thailand

If there's a time to receive news from our field testers in tropical Thailand, then maybe when you're driving through a blizzard in the Cairngorms isn't it. However, it was good to hear from them this weekend and get some feedback on their experience with the prototype cooler.

The story so far... well thanks to the good offices of our colleagues on the STAR-TIDES project the prototype cooler that was on display at NDU and The Pentagon was shipped to Nicki who is taking time out from her busy life in the UK to do some travelling.

Nicki has provided us with a regular travelogue from Laos, Vietnam and most recently Thailand. Lots of photos of elephants and tales of riding rubber tyres down the Vang Vieng river.

But what about the cooler?

Well, it has certainly come in to its own in recent days as Nicki met up with her mum and dad - on the island of RachYai. Staying, for a change in the luxury of a hotel at Kon Kare bay a power cut took out the air conditioning. Nicki's dad was the first to commandeer the Sleepbreeze and did his own evaluation using the battery power pack. Whilst it was too dark to send a photo (well, it would be if the power was out), he reports that the cooler was really effective in the heat they've experienced at this resort. Quite a boon when the air con is out of order, or if you're doing the economy version and staying in hostels where mains electricity is only supplied for certain periods of the day. Worth including in anyone's luggage!

Did we pay them for this evaluation? Rumour has it I only ever pay peanuts....well, they're family, so I sent coconuts instead....
