tooling starts - at last!

Well, this is what it's all about. Seeing science transformed into a tangible product. Getting this far has been tough at times for Jill and myself. So, seeing the tooling start to take shape this week at the BEC factory at New Milton meant a lot to us.

So, what are we all looking at? Well, the tooling component shown is destined to make the finger guards for our fan system. The design has to achieve many things. Our design criteria was to produce a finger guard that would achieve just that - keep fingers out - even the smallest most inquisitive ones! Of course, we also have to leave room for air to go through! Any more challenges? Sure - turbulence spilling off the grille would waste energy and be a source of noise - not ideal for a fan destined for those trying to get off to sleep.

Oh, and finally. Lets make it a shape people will love.

the Eagle has landed...

...well, not quite that historic.

But last week was another milestone in bringing the design to market.

The keypad membrane that we've had designed to control the product arrived in the office.

Stylish and robust, easy to clean, intuitive layout, easy click buttons.

one for the album...our first BBC radio interview

Sunday lunchtime, and I'm invited to BBC Radio Solent's studios to talk about SleepBreeze Ltd. on The Good Life - a programme devoted to those with green fingers and green minds. A perfect place to talk about the SleepBreeze low energy personal cooler.

Sleepbreeze On Solent Radio's The Good Life

Gerogie Windsor, The Good Life's ace presenter really brought the product to life for the listeners. Last year she was a mother-to-be in a heatwave and evidently understood the potential of our cooler. And as the product can then be used to benefit the child when positioned adjacent to a crib, cot and eventually the child's bed it's a bargain.

And thanks to all who phoned in and emailed - we appreciate your interest. Keep the questions coming. You'll be able to hear more of the story as we've been invited back on to the programme. Fan-tastic!

And a final word about my first radio interview from my 3 year old. "Dad you were GREAT on the radio today. Mum, now can I have the ice cream you promised?"
