Backpackers hostels tend to come with a variety of services and prices. Backpackers hostels offering air conditioning are the most pricey. Those offering a room fan, slightly cheaper. Then at the bottom of the pile you get to "sleep" in a room where the air is still, humid and uncomfortable. But at least you are saving money.

Of course you should also bear in mind that the local electricity supply may be temperamental. So, the air conditioning or ceiling fan may be rationed to a few hours per day. Not luxurious, but at least you'll have a tale to tell when you get home. Or you could read on....
